Michigan kei truck questions
Are kei trucks street legal in Michigan?
Michigan's Secretary of State says kei-class vehicles, including mini trucks and microvans 25 years and older, can be titled and registered for on-road use if they were manufactured for on-road use. Mini trucks under 25 years can only be titled as off-road vehicles.
What do I need to title an imported kei truck in Michigan?
The ownership documents (for a Japanese truck, the export certificate with its English translation and the bill of sale), CBP Form 7501, the HS-7 and the EPA 3520-1, plus your ID and Michigan no-fault insurance. We hand you all of the import documents.
Do I pay sales tax on a kei truck?
Michigan charges 6% sales tax on vehicle purchases, about $630 on a $10,500 truck. When you buy from a Michigan dealer it is collected at sale, and the title must be transferred within 15 days. Our prices are quoted before tax.
Where do kei trucks for sale in the US usually come from?
Mostly the coasts. On the largest US kei truck marketplace we checked in October 2026, most US-located trucks were in Washington, North Carolina and Florida, and none was in Michigan. We land trucks in the Detroit area instead.
Do you deliver kei trucks outside Michigan?
Yes, across the lower 48. Indiana has a mini-truck registration. Ohio limits mini trucks to roads posted at 35 mph or less. Wisconsin generally allows them. Check your own state's rules for kei trucks on public roads before you buy.
